(c) nine civil servants within the Department at grade three or above have moved to different responsibilities.
Civil servants are not normally directly responsible to individual Ministers but serve them collectively.
§ Mr. DuncanTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list by grade the number of officials in his Department at grade 3 or above who have(a) taken early retirement, (b) taken official leave, (c) been dismissed, (d) changed jobs within the Department, (e) moved to another Department and (f) been offered and rejected an alternative position (i) within the Department and (ii) in another Department since 1 May. § Mr. Spellar[holding answer 5 February 1998]: Since 1 May 1997, two Grade 3 officials within the Department have taken early retirement.
Information on official leave is not held centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
No officials at Grade 3 or above within the Department have been dismissed.
Seven officials at Grade 3 have changed jobs within the Department. One official at Grade 2 has changed jobs within the Department. One official has changed jobs on promotion from Grade 3 to Grade 2.
One official at Grade 3 has commenced a period on loan to another Department.
No officials at Grade 3 or above have been offered and rejected alternative positions either within the Department or in another Department.
