HC Deb 12 February 1998 vol 306 cc373-4W
Mrs. Browning

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if the requirement to remove bone from beef applies to animals killed on the farm for farmers' own consumption. [27855]

Mr. Rooker

[holding answer 5 February 1998]: The Beef Bones Regulations do not require meat to be de-boned if it is derived from a bovine animal slaughtered on the farmer's farm for his own consumption. Such slaughter must be carried out in accordance with the Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995 and the Specified Risk Material Regulations 1997. If the bovine animal is sent for slaughter off the farm, then meat must be de-boned before it is returned to the farmer for consumption in his household.
