§ Mrs. Beckett[holding answer 19 January 1998]: Between 1 May 1997 and end January 1998, Mr. Beckett accompanied me on 17 visits, of which 6 involved a cost to public funds. The total cost was £238. In addition, the Minister of State, my hon. Friend the Member for Makerfield (Mr. McCartney) has been accompanied by Mrs. McCartney on 2 visits, neither involving cost to public funds.
