§ Mr. FatchettMy right hon. Friend the Prime Minister met President Arafat on 26 January. He reaffirmed the EU/UK view that the parties must respect their commitments under existing agreements, particularly with regard to Israeli redeployments from the West Bank. I visited Israel and the Occupied Territories on 14–16 January. In Israel I met Netanyahu, Mordechai (Defence Minister), Bentsur (MFA PUS-equivalent), and senior Labour politicians. On the Palestinian side, I met Arafat, Sha'ath (Minister of Planning and International Cooperation) and Faisal Husseini.
