§ Mr. Battle[holding answer 9 February 1998]: Figures separately identifying components of the energy industries such as electricity and gas are not readily available; however, estimated figures for these sectors for 1980, 1990 and provisional figures for 1996 were published in Volume 1 of the 1997 Energy Report "Shaping Change". These estimates are based on detailed Annual Employment Survey data which have been revised since publication of the Energy Report. For this reason, the ONS figures, which are more up to date than those in the Energy Report, are given.
