§ Mr. WilsonDetails of expenditure on schools for financial year 1996–97 are not yet available. The information for 1995–96, under the council areas then applicable, is given in the following table which has been compiled from local authority financial returns. There can be variations in the recording of expenditure under these two headings. It is, therefore, possible that some expenditure on books may be included under expenditure on equipment or vice versa.
