§ Mr. Doug HendersonThe powers provided by section 2(2)(a) of the European Communities Act 1972 enable the exercise or implementation of certain rights or obligations of the United Kingdom which derive from the treaties defined in section 1(2) of the Act. These treaties include, in particular, the Treaties establishing the three Communities, all the accession treaties, the Single European Act and parts of the Maastricht Treaty.
In practice, section 2(2)(a) is mostly used to implement in the United Kingdom European Community directives.
