To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list each education action zone established since 1 May. [28191]

§ Mr. Byers
No Education Action Zones have been established. Early in January I invited schools, local education authorities, businesses and others to come forward with applications. These will need to show how an Education Action Zone could help them to find imaginative solutions to raise standards.
The deadline for returning these is 20 March 1998, and I intend to announce the results in June.
