§ Dr. TongeTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what plans he has for introducing international development into the National Curriculum. [27172]
§ Ms Estelle MorrisThere are already requirements and opportunities for pupils to study issues related to international development through the National Curriculum, particularly in geography and history. The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority is due to give formal advice this Spring on the scope and nature of possible revisions to the National Curriculum after 2000. Meanwhile, the new flexibility in the primary curriculum will give schools more opportunity to offer intentional development education if they wish.
