HC Deb 04 February 1998 vol 305 cc689-90W
Mr. Fitzpatrick

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many employment cases broken down by main disabling conditions are awaiting consideration by industrial tribunals under the employment provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. [26755]

Mr. Ian McCartney

I have consulted the Chief Executive of the Employment Tribunals Service who tells me that there are currently 388 cases awaiting consideration by industrial tribunals. Since the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 came into force there have been 730 applications under the Act, of which 342 have been heard. This excludes cases where a claim under the DDA is not the main jurisdiction. There are no statistics available which break down cases by main disabling conditions.
