HC Deb 04 February 1998 vol 305 cc706-7W
15. Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what plans he has evaluated in respect of increases in the number of citizens charters; and if he will make a statement. [25371]

Mr. Kilfoyle

We have recently undertaken a wide-ranging consultation exercise to find out what people want from the new Charter programme, which we intend to launch in the spring.

The relaunched Charter Programme will reflect this consultation and the Government's commitment to improving delivery of public services at both local and national level.

19. Mr. Bill O'Brien

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will make a statement on his policy for future of citizens charter awards; and if he will make a statement. [25377]

Mr. Kilfoyle

Charter Mark awards are made to recognise excellence in the provision of public services. They will continue to be awarded on the same basis as they are at the moment: by an independent judging panel, following a rigorous, externally audited assessment process.

Charter Mark has been a success. We want to develop and expand it, and will be announcing our plans for doing so in the spring.
