§ The Prime MinisterThe operations of the Security Service are constrained by its statutory remit which allows it to conduct investigations only into persons whom it suspects of presenting a threat to national security or to the economic well-being of the United Kingdom, or in support of the law enforcement agencies in the prevention and detection of serious crime.
