For the period 1 May-31 December 1997 the average length of time taken to reply to letters was 13.65 working days. The target date set by my Department is 15 working days, and the percentage which received replies within the target date was 73.5 per cent. Statistics are not kept on the length of time it takes to deliver a letter after it has been typed.
