§ Mr. WilsonThe numbers of lone parents and pensioners are given in the table. The source is the 1991 Census of Population.
Parliamentary constituency level information is not available for all DSS benefits. I have asked my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Security to write supplying the data that are available.
The Office for National Statistics measures unemployment using the internationally standard ILO unemployment rate. This is measured through the Labour Force Survey, which is a survey of households in the United Kingdom. This is internationally-agreed and counts as unemployed people who are: (a) without a paid job; (b) available to start work within the next two weeks 487W and (c) have either looked for work in the last four weeks or are waiting to start a job already obtained.
ONS also published figures on the number of people who are claiming Jobseeker's Allowance or National Insurance Credits. This is published monthly and is known as the Claimant Count.
