§ Mr. CousinsTo ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry when an export licence for the export to China of designs for a military aircraft engine now known as the WS9 turbofan was granted. [62920]
§ Mrs. Roche[holding answer 9 December 1998]: I understand that the Spey engine was produced in China, under an agreement with Rolls-Royce, under the name of the WS9 turbofan between 1976 and 1979. As the then Minister for Trade said on 27 October 1995, Official Report, column 837, up to July 1991, all export licence application papers were destroyed after six years. Therefore details of any licence issued for the export of the designs in connection with that production agreement are no longer available.
