To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimates he has made of the net gain or loss to the Exchequer consequent on changing the threshold for compulsory VAT registration. [63401]

The cost to the Exchequer from increasing the VAT registration threshold from £49,000 to £50,000 on 1 April 1998 was estimated to be £10 million in 1999–2000.
