To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions when he will make an announcement on this year's Rural Bus Challenge competition. [64632]

The schemes listed have been approved for grant under this year's Rural Bus Challenge. This follows careful consideration of the 214 bids received from local authorities. The value of the bids totalled over £41.5 million, in comparison with the £11.4 million available for grant. A Special Grant Report under Section 88b of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 will be put forward for Parliamentary approval as soon as possible in the new year.
