In respect of the proposals in the Maidenhead flood relief scheme to remove about three million tonnes of gravel for resale to the construction industry, whether the Environment Agency has investigated the full environmental effects of removing the gravel by road and rail; and how, in coming to its decision about the preferred option, it will take into account the full environmental benefits of rail transport. § Lord DonoughueI understand that the Environment Agency has investigated the environmental advantages and disadvantages of using either road or rail for transporting the gravel generated by the construction of 161WA the Maidenhead, Windsor and Eton flood alleviation scheme. The agency will take full account of both environmental and economic factors in selecting the preferred option.
