Mr. Ian Stewart

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the inward investment projects in the North West which have(a) commenced operation and (b) been announced since May 1997. [64217]

There is no requirement to notify projects to the Department. The list includes only those projects where the Department' s Invest in Britain Bureau and its regional partners were involved or which have come to their notice. It does not include projects where the company has requested commercial confidentiality. It is based on information provided by the companies at the time of the announcement of the decision to invest in the UK. It takes no account of subsequent developments.
