HC Deb 16 December 1998 vol 322 cc593-4W
Dr. Tonge

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what representations she has received on the situation of street children in Colombia. [64178]

Clare Short

I have not received any representations on the specific situation of street children in Colombia. However, I recognise the severe problems faced by street children. In Colombia we provide support for two street children projects through the DFID Small Grants Scheme and through our Joint Funding Scheme supports a Save the Children Fund project aimed at improving regional policy towards child rights.

Dr. Tonge

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development if she will list the projects that her Department is supporting in Colombia. [64181]

Clare Short

The projects that DFID currently support in Colombia are as follows:

  • Groundwater Pollution Control Project;
  • Integrated Coffee Pest Management;
  • SENA Post Fruit Handling;
  • Efficiency Unit Project;
  • London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine—link on a programme to assess intensive care provision.

We also provide funding for technical co-operation training, Chevening awards, and through DFID' s Joint Funding Scheme and the DFID Small Grants Scheme which is administered by the British Embassy in Bogota.
