With reference to the granite setts outside Chancellor's Gate:

  1. (a) which firm undertook the work;
  2. (b) how they were selected;
  3. (c) whether the selection followed public advertisement;
  4. (d) what was the cost of the work; and
  5. (e) whether the setts are of British origin. [HL234]

  1. (a) The small trial area of granite setts at Chancellor's Gate was undertaken by Rochford Paving Ltd.
  2. (b) Rochford Paving Ltd. offered the best value for money.
  3. (c) No. Public advertisement is not appropriate for such small parcels of work.
  4. (d) £2,300.
  5. (e) The setts were of French origin.
