§ Mr. BanksThis Government are committed to providing the strongest possible promotional and diplomatic support for the bidding and staging of major sporting events in the UK. We are already providing strong support for the bids for the 2003 World Athletics Championships and the 2006 World Cup. In addition, I am working closely with the British Olympic Association to ensure that all the ingredients are in place to mount a winnable bid for the Olympic Games at the earliest possible date.
