HC Deb 14 December 1998 vol 322 c413W
Mr. Gill

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what percentage of total CAP expenditure will go to British farmers in the current year; and to which sectors. [63105]

Mr. Rooker

In 1997, the latest year for which data are available, direct payments to UK farmers amounted to some 8% of the total CAP budget. Of this total, 50% were arable payments, 48% livestock (including BSE related payments) and 2% agri-environment and other payments. These figures exclude market support measures such as export refunds which also benefit UK farmers but are not paid directly to them.
