§ Ms Estelle MorrisWe are providing significant investment to support the implementation of the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies in primary schools. This year we have given £65 million to schools to purchase books for reading. On 7 December we announced an additional £54 million to support our drive to raise literacy standards in primary schools, a similar amount will be made available for schools to implement the numeracy hour in September 1999.
