§ Mr. Rooker[holding answer 7 December 1998]: The estimated direct cost of the BSE Inquiry is £10 million, excluding departmental costs and legal support for departmental witnesses. The number of staff allocated to the Inquiry has fluctuated according to need; it currently stands at 85.
