§ Mr. RookerGB meat hygiene legislation provides the Meat Hygiene Service with powers to require the slowing of line speeds in individual abattoirs where, in the opinion of the Official Veterinary Surgeon, line speeds are such as to jeopardise the satisfactory inspection or the hygienic production of meat. I have no plans, however, for the blanket introduction of maximum line speeds in licensed abattoirs.
