HC Deb 02 December 1998 vol 321 cc173-6W
Mr. Ben Chapman

To ask the Minister of State, Lord Chancellor's Department what responses the Government have received to their consultation paper, Rights of Audience and Rights to Conduct Litigation in England and Wales: the Way Ahead. [62353]

Mr. Hoon

The Government received 100 responses to the consultation paper. Of these 64 were in favour of the Government's proposals, 12 were opposed, 11 were neutral or did not comment, and 13 were mixed. Copies of the responses have today been placed in the Libraries of both Houses, and the Supreme Court Library, with the exception of 6 responses which were made in confidence. The responses were carefully analysed and taken into account in the development of our proposals on rights of audience which are contained in the Modernising Justice White Paper published today.
