HC Deb 02 December 1998 vol 321 cc172-3W
Mr. Webb

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how much it would cost to exempt pensioners from the abolition of the dividend tax credit for the years(a) 1999–2000, (b) 2000–01 and (c) 2001–02; [61839]

(2) if he will list by region in Great Britain the number of pensioners who will lose money, and the amounts involved, as a result of the abolition of the dividend tax credit. [61842]

Dawn Primarolo

[holding answer 1 December 1998]: It is estimated that the cost of exempting those aged over 65 from the abolition of payable tax credits on dividend income would be about £25 million in each full year. I regret that no estimates are available on a regional basis for either the number of pensioners affected or the amounts of money involved.
