To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how many pensioners currently receive a concessionary television licence under each criterion for each region in Great Britain. [61152]

[holding answer 27 November 1998]: Regional statistics on the concessionary television licence scheme do not distinguish between pensioners and other beneficiaries, or according to the criteria under which individuals qualify. The number of concessionary licences currently on issue in the United Kingdom, by country, is (to the nearest thousand):
