HC Deb 29 April 1998 vol 311 c130W
Mr. Drew

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what progress his Department is making in identifying good practice among the Local Agenda 21 Groups. [39871]

Angela Eagle

In partnership with the Local Government Management Board, the Department funds the 'Local Agenda 21 Case Study Project' which aims to identify and disseminate examples of best practice by Local Agenda 21 Groups. The project is managed by a cross-sectoral Steering Group of organisations concerned with Local Agenda 21 implementation, including representatives of the LGMB, DETR, the Worldwide Fund for Nature, the Environment Council, the Community Development Foundation, Shell Better Britain Campaign, UNED-UK, Community Matters and Groundwork. During the first year, thirty five case studies were published and disseminated and a further sixteen are to be published shortly. The case studies can also be accessed via the Internet either through the DETR website (http://www.environment.detr.gov.uk) or through the Local Sustainability pages of the European Good Practice Information Service (http://cities21.com/europractice).
