Letter from John Kidgell to Mr. Nick Gibb, dated 29 April 1998:
In the absence of the Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your parliamentary question on weekly earnings.
The latest estimates from the New Earnings Survey conducted in April 1997, are that 72.1 per cent of employees on adult rates of pay, and whose gross weekly earnings during the survey pay period in April 1997 were unaffected by absence, were paid between £81 and £450 per week. Comparable percentages for full time and part time employees are 76.5% and 57.2% respectively.
