HC Deb 28 April 1998 vol 311 cc115-6W
25. Mr. Streeter

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the allocation of resources for the winter period of 1997–98. [38699]

Mr. Milburn

Last October we provided an additional £269 million to the National Health Service in England for use in the 1997–98 financial year. As part of this programme, nearly 1,500 initiatives were funded to ease pressures on the health and social care system during the winter period.

32. Sir Sydney Chapman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement about the allocation of resources to health authorities. [38706]

Mr. Milburn

We are committed to distributing hospital and community health service resources to health authorities fairly using a weighted capitation formula. This is based on the healthcare needs of the local population.

A new advisory committee on resource allocation has been established further to improve the arrangements for distributing resources for both primary and secondary care.
