HC Deb 28 April 1998 vol 311 c70W
Mr. Campbell-Savours

To ask the President of the Board of Trade (1) what plans she has to introduce measures for the approval of diagnostic and remedial computer equipment marketed for dealing with millennium compliance; [38528]

(2) if she will introduce measures to regulate mis-selling by software companies of diagnostic and remedial equipment, marketed for dealing with millennium compliance. [38529]

Mrs. Roche

I have no plans to introduce new measures. I would urge purchasers to check whether the equipment complies with their requirements. In doing so they will be protected by a range of general consumer legislation, including the Trades Descriptions Act 1968 and the Sales of Goods Act 1979, which requires goods to be of satisfactory quality, taking account of any description of the good and fitness for all the purposes for which goods of this kind are commonly supplied.
