HC Deb 28 April 1998 vol 311 c95W
Mr. Fitzpatrick

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what social, medical and counselling services are provided for immigration detainees with mental illnesses when they are released back into the community from detention. [39363]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

Detainees who are sectioned under the Mental Health Act are referred for appropriate treatment. Other detainees, who may be receiving treatment when they are released or bailed, are given a summary or copy of their own medical records. They are also given a short supply of any medication they require and told to register with a General Practitioner as soon as they are released. It would then be for the General Practitioner to arrange whatever care he or she considered necessary.
