In that year, some £1.6 million of the total Home Office grant of £11.7 million to Victim Support was used by them to run a witness support service at every Crown Court centre in England and Wales. There are 86 such services, including satellite courts. In 1996–97, the grant enabled 92 paid staff and 1,100 volunteers to provide help to 97,618 people.
