HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 c398W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what will be the average marginal tax rate for those families who qualify for the working families tax credit. [38220]

Dawn Primarolo

[holding answer 8 April 1998]: About 65% of families who qualify for the Working Families Tax Credit will face a marginal deduction rate of between 66.7% and 69.9% (depending upon the exact rate at which they pay tax and NICs), with marginal rates cut for about 540,000 families, most by over 10 percentage points.
