HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 c461W
Mr. Charles Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to protect hedgerows. [38569]

Mr. Macdonald

The importance of hedgerows is widely recognised not only in natural heritage terms, but also for farming, cultural and archaeological reasons. Incentives are available to encourage farmers and crofters to maintain their existing hedges and to plant new hedges through both the Government's agri-environment programme and Scottish Natural Heritage grants
