To ask the Secretary of State for International Development in which countries her Department proposes to promote replication of the Shanghai Municipal Financial Reform Project in 1998–99. [39184]

We have no current plans to promote replication of the Shanghai Municipal Finance Reform project although we will draw on the positive experience of this project in developing proposals in other countries. Opportunities for replication in China will be discussed with the Chinese Government as part of a project review later this year.
