HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 c438W
Mr. Waterson

To ask the Attorney-General if he authorised the employment of Crown Communications by the Director of Public Prosecutions. [38719]

The Attorney-General

I was aware that CPS management was considering how to handle the Glidwell Report and the Government's response to it with a view to informing their staff of the Government's decisions. I was not aware that Crown Business Communications were being considered for this purpose. Internal communications within the CPS are not my responsibility but that of CPS management subject to my general power of superintendence. I shall be considering the handling of the Glidwell Report with the Director of Public Prosecutions in due course.

Mr. Waterson

To ask the Attorney-General what was the total cost to the public purse of the employment of Crown Communications by the Director of Public Prosecutions. [38720]

The Attorney-General

Nothing. No contract has been signed between Crown Business Communications and the Crown Prosecution Service. If it is decided to use the company it will be paid for items of work only when they have been identified and agreed.
