HC Deb 08 April 1998 vol 310 c353W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what assessment she has made of the implications for the newsprint industry of the regulations increasing the contents of recycled paper in newsprint. [38525]

Mrs. Beckett

The Private Member's Bill on the recycled content of newsprint, which is now before the House, has a number of implications for the newsprint industry. These, and others relating to trade, competitiveness and the environment are all currently being assessed by the Government. Newsprint manufactured in the UK last year contained an average of 92% recycled paper.
