HC Deb 08 April 1998 vol 310 c293W
Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will increase the time allowed for provisional motorcycle licence holders to pass their test, in respect of women who become pregnant before the expiry of the one year time limit. [37975]

Ms Glenda Jackson

Provisional motorcycle licences are issued with a two year validity period. A licence holder who has not passed the motorcycle test by the end of that period cannot obtain a replacement provisional motorcycle licence within the following 12 months. If there are medical or other reasons why a person would wish to suspend their learner rider status, such as pregnancy, the licence can be returned to the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency, so as to preserve the remainder of the validity period.
