HC Deb 08 April 1998 vol 310 c259W
Ms Shipley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prosecutions for offences related to domestic violence were undertaken in the last year for which figures are available. [37830]

Mr. Michael

Information collected centrally on court proceedings is not held in sufficient detail to distinguish domestic violence from other violent offences. Information held centrally on the Home Office Court Proceedings database does not record the relationship between defendant and victim. In some circumstances, this may be implicit through legislation, for instance the offence of infanticide under the Infanticide Act 1938, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

Ms Shipley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cases of offences connected with domestic violence were prosecuted in the West Midlands Region; and in how many cases a conviction was achieved in the last 12 months for which figures are available [38071]
