To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1) how the random sample of schools inspected in 1994–95 and to be re-inspected in autumn 1998 was chosen by Ofsted; what advice was given to Her Majesty's Chief Inspector on how to ensure a random, balanced sample of schools; and by whom that advice was given; [37683]

(2) how many primary schools in England and Wales which were last inspected in 1994–95 are being inspected in autumn 1998; and what estimate he has made of the total cost of those inspections. [37684]
