To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will take steps to encourage Welsh Office officials(a) to visit and (b) to acquire further knowledge of the regions of Wales. [38079]

Many of my officials visit various parts of Wales in the course of their duties and are encouraged to do so. Staff are based not only in Cardiff but in Llandrindod Wells, Carmarthen, Caernarfon, Colwyn Bay and Aberystwyth.

Awareness of Wales and Welsh issues will form an increasingly important part of the Welsh Office Training and Development Programme.
