HC Deb 06 April 1998 vol 310 c117W
Mr. Hancock

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of the Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment's (COT) 1978 report conclusions regarding vitamin B6. [36458]

Ms Jowell

In 1978 the Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment (COT) did not produce a report on vitamin B6. However, in its statement on vitamin B6 of June 1997, the Committee did make reference to a 1978 study on the toxicity of vitamin B6 in dogs carried out by Phillips et al.

It is the COT' s role to evaluate the scientific evidence on toxicity of chemicals in food and to advise the Government on such matters. We have every confidence in the rigour with which the COT reviewed the data on the safety of vitamin B6.
