To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many(a) kidney, (b) heart, (c) lung, (d) heart and lung, (e) liver and (f) other transplants have been carried out in Wales in each of the last 10 years, broken down into health authority district; and if he will make a statement; [12912]

(2) how many transplants involving artificial organs have been carried out in Wales in each of the last 10 years, broken down into health authority district; and if he will make a statement. [12913]

Information on the number of transplants performed on Welsh residents by area of residence is not readily available. The number of transplants carried out in Wales as a whole is shown in the following table. Transplants of organs not listed in the table are not carried out in Wales. It should be noted that kidney transplants for residents of north Wales are normally carried out in Liverpool. No data are available centrally concerning artificial organ transplants.
