To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will commission studies on the impact of a single currency on the number and variety of wholesale trade and retail enterprises in the United Kingdom. [12528]

The Government have established a business advisory group to consider the practical implications of economic and monetary union for businesses, whether or not the United Kingdom were to join the single currency. A wide range of organisations, including those representing shops and small firms, are represented on the advisory group and working parties reporting to it.
