§ Mr. BurstowTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of paedophile treatment centres, with particular reference to the Faithfull Foundation's Wolvercote Clinic. [17536]
§ Ms QuinI have been asked to reply.
The following two studies published by the Home Office include an assessment of treatment programmes for sex offenders who are in the community: "Community-based treatment for sex offenders: an evaluation of seven programmes" (1994) and "Does treating sex offenders reduce offending?" (1996). Both are in the Library. The effectiveness of the treatment programme now running at the Wolvercote Clinic, which receives Home Office financial support, is currently being evaluated for the Home Office by the researchers who wrote the 1994 study.
