HC Deb 25 November 1997 vol 301 cc510-1W
Mr. Mitchell

To ask the President of the Board of Trade pursuant to the oral statement of 27 October 1997,Official Report, column 587, relating to completion of the Single European Market, what matters still require legislation; and what representations, and from whom, have been made in respect of each. [17436]

Mrs. Beckett

Legislation is required in particular on gas liberalisation, road and rail passenger transport, measuring instruments, and on certain aspects of electronic commerce. We also wish to see simplification of existing legislation. There are, of course, other non-legislative priorities for work in the area of the Single Market.

On all of these items, representations have been made by relevant trade and business associations.
