HL Deb 25 November 1997 vol 583 cc112-3WA
Lord Hogg of Cumbernauld

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What arrangements have been made to continue momentum of inward investment to the new towns of Livingston, Cumbernauld, East Kilbride, Irvine and Glenrothes since the wind-up of their development corporations

Lord Sewel

Locate in Scotland promotes the whole of Scotland as a location for inward investment. Its approach is, first, to interest potential investors in Scotland as a business location and then to work with them and with the local enterprise companies—including those whose areas include the new towns—to identify the locations which best meet the company's requirements. In the year to March 1997, Locate in Scotland and the Scottish Office helped to attract to the five new towns a total of 34 inward investment projects involving planned investment of nearly £450 million and the expected creation or safeguarding of nearly 8.000 jobs.
